The Art of Joy and Non-Labels

Ms. Dolly de Leon talks about failures so much, that if toxic positivity were a person they would be shaking in their boots. But that is a real, truthful, and necessary evil of talking about success. You must remind people that failures happen before it and that is okay. The blunders, the choices, the wondering why your contemporaries are getting bigger, better breaks. The immaturity of wondering when and why not you.

In her recent commencement speech at her alma mater, she reminds people to stop comparing themselves to others. Focus on yourself. The joy in things truly ends when comparison begins. I have also read several interviews of hers where she tells us of finding the joy in the process. To practice the gratitude of being able to just do what we love, regardless of labels. You'll get there, eventually. I remind myself of this. But mostly, I just find joy in the art that I do. And that is enough for me. It's truly main character energy when you give yourself the extra push as long as it's still physically and emotionally possible. One day you'll get your break. As long as you just keep going at it. Who knows? Maybe one day very soon.
